AV&R

As announced at the Farnborough International Airshow earlier today, GE Aviation places an order of more than 2 M$ to AV&R Vision & Robotics for profiling systems which will be deployed in plants located in Canada and the United States.

GE Aviation has recently established a center of excellence in robotics in Bromont, Quebec (read the French press release on the MDEIE’s website). The center’s mandate is to develop robotic technologies which will eventually be implemented in 85 factories of GE Aviation around the world.

The creation of this center of excellence has resulted in a partnership with AV&R that will help develop new robotic solutions based on the advanced technologies of the Montreal firm.

One of the first projects of the center was blade profiling. This solution, originally developed by AV&R, was adapted to the specific needs of GE Aviation through the expertise of the center of excellence. Performance of robotic systems profiling gas turbines blades can achieve a very high level of accuracy and repeatability. This advanced technology will improve the efficiency of aircraft engines while reducing fuel consumption.

“We are pleased to see that a Quebec SME can benefit from an innovative project supported by a prime contractor in aerospace, in this case GE Aviation. This example shows the high level of competitiveness of Quebec suppliers in the supply chain in the aerospace sector” commented Sam Hamad, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade.
